Which is Better For Your Drying Machine?
My Dryer Vent Cleaners will detail the pros and cons of both wool balls and dryer sheets and how they both can benefit or harm your drying machine. After learning more about the differences between these both, we think you are going to radically change the way you do your drying. Let’s dive right in!
Dryer sheets are made of polyester and coated with chemicals that are released when heated in the dryer. These fabric softener sheets coat the fabric with a surfactant that gives clothes a soft feel and helps to reduce static cling. These chemicals include Dipalmethyl hydroxyethylammoinum methosulfate, Fatty acid, fatty alcohols, and/or alcohol ethoxylates, Polyester substrate, Clay and often times fragrances. These chemicals can be harmful if you breathe them in during the drying cycle and the fragrances and/or surfactants can irritate sensitive skin.
Dryer balls are made of either plastic or wool and are chemical free; making them a better alternative for the green all natural types. Dryer balls work by creating separation between clothing items in the dryer, allowing for better air circulation and faster drying times. This not only reduces drying time by up to 25 percent per load but also helps to soften fabrics without the use of harsh chemicals. They also help to reduce static cling.
Dryer wool balls are environmentally friendly, reusable, and do not pose any health risks. However, they can be noisy in the dryer, do not provide a fresh scent, and may unravel during the drying cycle (which then you just replace them with new wool balls). They are made from 100 percent wool, making them hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin. They are reusable and can last for up to 1,000 loads, making them a more sustainable option for your laundry routine.
When using wool dryer balls, it is recommended to use 3 balls for small to medium-sized loads, 5-7 balls for larger loads, and 8-12 balls for extra-large loads. You can also add your favorite essential oils to the balls to give your laundry a pleasant scent. To clean wool dryer balls, hand wash them in a mixture of mild laundry soap and warm water to avoid damaging the felted wool.
Reduce the need for dryer vent cleaning services and use wool balls. The balls do not use any chemicals, making them a better choice for your health. Also, they dislodge and collect lint as they bounce around with the clothes, helping to prevent lint buildup in your dryer vent system. My Dryer Vent Cleaners recommend wool balls over dryer sheets because of this. Dryer sheets tend to accumulate wax and lint build up in the dryer air duct system causing a potential fire hazard.
